There’s a Place for You at the Table – mixed media
I created this mixed media piece was for a regional art exhibit whose theme was “Place,” a word which could be interpreted in any way by the artist. I thought about there being a ‘place at the table’ where people of all cultures/genders/religions can gather and get to know one another. My love of textiles can be seen in the machine stitching of the ‘place’mats and the decorative border bringing the whole piece to resemble a tablecloth.
Linda Weatherly is a fine artist living in North Tazewell, Virginia. She specializes in representational figurative drawings vibrant with color and emotion. Watercolor and pastel comprise her media. Children and quilts are among her favorite subjects. Her personal work focuses on imagery and narrative. Taking an ordinary scene, Weatherly twists it in a way that draws the observer into mystery and possibility. Often she composes as one might a quilt, combining pieces of imagery in a pattern surrounded by a complimentary border.
